High House Ruin

High House Ruin in Beef Basin

The high house is situated 150 feet above Ruin Canyon in Beef Basin. This three level multi-roomed dwelling can be seen on our 3 day Needles trip when Bobby’s Hole is passable.  An intricate clay mortar is inlaid in the great masonry of slabs and blocks making T shaped doorways. The Juniper roof beam sockets that made up the second level of this ruin are still visible.

Beef Basin is broken up by ridges and buttes into several sage covered parks and canyons. While outside of Canyonlands National Park, this isolated area constitutes a rich archeological heritage.
