Explore the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park by comfortable 4 wheel drive. On this trip we travel up Salt Creek and into the archeological epicenter of Horse Canyon. The walls appear sculpted by an artist with their smooth flowing form as we travel the canyons sandy bottom. Considered by many to be the best one day 4X4 tour in Canyonlands.

We drive on Hwy 191 to the southern entrance of Canyonlands near Church Rock. We’ll pass one of Utah’s first and still operational ranches before we enter the Needles. We leave the pavement at Salt Creek, and soon arrive at Paul Bunyan’s Potty, the most famous arch in Horse Canyon.

A short spur in the canyon leads to our next stop, Tower Ruin, a well preserved Ancestral Publoean home. This dwelling was probably lived in seasonally by farmers migrating between Horse Canyon and the mesa top. Visiting someone’s home when they’ve been gone for centuries one wonders how these people lived.

Midday we will make a stop for a picnic lunch. Our seasoned guides are eager to share their knowledge of the area's human and natural history with you. They will lead you to the Thirteen Faces pictograph panel plus Castle and Fortress Arches. We return back down Horse Canyon and make a short stop at Newspaper rock petroglyphs before we head back to Moab.

Trip Details:

Your full-day Horse Canyon tour departs at 8:00 AM. Meet us at the NAVTEC Expedition office 15 minutes prior to departure. We are located at 321 N. Main St. Moab, Utah. We have plenty of parking for your convenience. Pick-up from local hotels, motels, and campgrounds is also available upon advance request. We will take you to the Needles in our comfortable 4X4 vehicles and return you when the trip ends. Reservations are recommended.
