This classic canyon of the American Southwest safeguards our rugged Wild West heritage, featuring remnants of old mining cabins, ancient petroglyphs, and even an outlaw grave. Magnificent old-growth cottonwood trees provide crucial roosts for majestic Bald Eagles. Keep a sharp eye out for playful River Otters in the eddies, and listen for the distinctive tail-slaps of beaver after dark.

We'll pause midday on the river's edge where your guide will serve a delicious buffet-style picnic. After lunch, we prepare for the big whitewater ahead with an in-depth safety talk. One of Westwater's greatest features is its consistent excitement: the rapids are excellent at almost any water level, ensuring you encounter the thrilling power and magic of the Colorado River no matter the season.

As evening envelopes the canyon, we set up our riverside camp. A hearty, western-style meal is prepared by our boatmen over the glowing embers of an open fire. Later, a freshly baked dessert from a Dutch oven provides the perfect, sweet finish to an adventurous day. This area boasts some of the darkest skies in the country, and on a clear summer night, the Milky Way is a truly prominent and beautiful sight.

Morning greets us with a hot cup of coffee and a hearty breakfast. We reload the boats and continue our journey on the Colorado for another great day. Following the rapids, river runners can simply relax on the oar boat and soak in the world-famous, breathtaking scenery.
