Run the mighty Colorado River through the heart of Cataract Canyon on the Navtec exclusive “Colorado River Sportboat”—a revolutionary whitewater RHIB (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat) invented by our founder, John Williams, in the 1980s.
Because of this groundbreaking watercraft and our unique permits, Navtec Expeditions is the only outfitter capable of running the entire Cataract Canyon in a single, spectacular day!
This famous 100-mile section of the Colorado travels deep into the soul of Canyonlands National Park and through 30 world-class rapids.

As we journey through the serene, lazy miles upstream, watch for wildlife and soak in the sweeping canyon vistas. Rafting on a high-speed RHIB means we have ample time for swimming, a short hike, or simply relaxing in the shade. Canyonlands National Park provides an outstanding wilderness setting where photographic opportunities abound. We'll pause to enjoy a delicious buffet-style picnic lunch on the riverbanks. Downstream, we pass the Confluence of the Green and Colorado Rivers and enter the much-anticipated, thrilling whitewater!
Our Whitewater RHIB offers a fun, stable, and incredibly competent ride. These small, powerful craft expertly navigate the electrifying rapids, including the notorious North Seas, Hell-to-Pay, and the colossal Big Drops rapids.
Cataract Canyon is considered one of the most exciting single-day river trips in the United States. During the peak months of May and June, Rocky Mountain snowmelt creates a day of super-charged, adrenaline-pumping whitewater action. While water levels become more moderate in the summer and fall, the whitewater remains impressive. The unmatched maneuverability of the RHIB guarantees you an incredible experience regardless of the flow!
After conquering the rapids, the river returns to a calm cruise out to Lake Powell. At North Wash take out you have three flexible options for your return: ground transportation back to Moab, a spectacular scenic flight, or having your personal vehicle conveniently shuttled here for your arrival. It would be worth it just to travel the 100 miles we did on a motorboat through magnificent and thoroughly untouched portions of the Colorado. But the rapids made it much more than that. It started off with flatwater until we reached the confluence of the Colorado and Green Rivers, and after that the 25 rapids started, ranging from Class 1 to Class 5. Josh, our guide, did a wonderful job overall and through the rapids in particular. I had rafted five rivers before, but never in a motorized raft like we used here, and Josh made it a new kind of rafting experience for me. Very exciting but also very safety-conscious. I would recommend this trip, and Navtec, to anyone looking for an amazing one-day, never-to-forget experience.
