Trip Notes: Fly into Loreto, Baja California Sur, Mexico
Sea Kayaking in Baja.
Arch camp along the Sierra de la Giganta coast
Loreto, Baja is a world-class sea kayaking destination. The calm waters of the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California on some maps) teem with fish, dolphins, sea lions and whales.

The rugged, mountainous coastline is dotted with cacti and numerous unusual native plants. Uninhabited islands beckon the outdoor adventurer.

Sierra de la Giganta
All of it combines to make the perfect winter escape -- for the novice or experienced kayaker.

NAVTEC's expert U.S. and local guides meet you in Baja's oldest town, the quiet fishing village of Loreto. You'll stay at a beachfront hotel at the beginning and end of the trip (included in trip price.) On the first night a trip orientation with your guides will take place at your hotel.

The next morning we will shuttle to the launch point and begin an adventure into the incomparable beauty of the island strewn coast of the Sierra de la Giganta. The Sierra de la Giganta is a mountain range that plunges abruptly to the sea along the trip course. It is most beautiful. The entire area is included in the Parque Nacional Bahia de Loreto, a vast Mexican federal marine preserve full of islands, isolated bays, dolphins and 700 or so species of fish. Fin and Blue whales mystically inhabit these same waters and sightings can be quit impressive. Federal authorization is require to operate in these waters.

On the water we carry heavy camp equipment, food, ice and other supplies aboard NAVTEC's rigid hull inflatable boats or RIBs. This makes for lighter kayaks and easier paddling, meals prepared from fresh ingredients and another level of trip safety.

World-class Sea Kayaking
Our seasoned guides teach you how to kayak safely. The sea kayak is very stable and easy to paddle. You'll soon be skimming across the water with ease. Our powered supply boat (RIB) is always available for back up if required.

Most of the kayaking is in the morning with afternoons free for snorkeling, fishing, hiking or just relaxing in camp where the guides are preparing another local favorite for dinner. Happy hour begins at about 5:30PM.
