Trip Leaders
The Trip Leader must have a working knowledge of whitewater safety, general first aid, river equipment, repair, and the techniques of white water navigation appropriate to the section they are considering running. They also coordinate menus, equipment, and logistics. Here are some basic river trip planning guidelines.
- How many passengers are going and what is their skill level?
- Which section are you going to run? Do you need a permit?
- Are you going during high or low water?
- How many people, boats and vehicles need to be shuttled?
- Do you need to hire a shuttle?
- What gear is required?
- What gear is available?
- What gear needs to be rented?
- How are you going to carry water? 1gallon/person/day
- Are there members of your group able to provide medical and rescue assistance in an emergency?
- Is your first-aid kit adequate for your group size and trip length?
- Do you have any dietary restrictions in the group?
- Is the kitchen going to have everything needed for cooking?
- Do members need their own plates, cups, and utensils?
- Are there dry bags for personal gear?
- Do you have rigging (Rig to Flip)?
