Hite Marina

current low water hite marina

Good: The latest storm surge through the Southwest has brought the snow-pack for the Colorado River basin up to 100% of average! This is compared to the 50-80 percent predictions only a few weeks ago. You have to love April showers. We are expecting decent flows on the Colorado River for the 2013 season.
Bad: Currently Lake Powell is down to 48% of full pool leaving Hite Marina non-operational. Until conditions change we are no longer able to offer return ground transport for Cataract Canyon trips. Guest will either need to fly or have their personal vehicles shuttled to the take-out.
Ugly: The Bureau of Rec is projecting that even with normal flows, due to last year’s low water; conditions are not expected to improve for Hite Marina. So the above photo might be as good as it gets.

March Photos

It's been a fun week in Moab. While all the Jeeps were here in town for the Easter Safari; we had our own adventures in Canyon Country.

Spring in Canyonlands

National Park hiking tour in the Needles

What a great time of year to explore Desert Rivers and Canyons. Canyonlands is a little less forgiving this time of year, but the rewards are what we live for. A big thank you to all our guests. Here are a couple highlights from trips this week.

Chesler Park: A group of backpackers lined up to sing the theme song of Indiana Jones as we ran our Land Cruiser over Elephant Hill in the Needles.
Cataract Canyon: A raven, a great blue heron, and a bald eagle walked into a sand bar. (no joke)
Maze: Fueled with self reliance in remote country we searched to find the most breathtaking views.

Georgie White

Georgie White female river guide

Georgie White Clark (1911-1992) is credited as being the first woman to row the Grand Canyon. Some people believe her to be Bessie Hyde from the notorious Honeymoon Couple who disappeared on the Colorado River in 1928. She was an iron-nerved mermaid and a wore a leopard-skin leotard (to hide her engine grease stains). We have a Rigid Hulled Inflatable Boat named after her that runs the Colorado River in Cataract Canyon.
